007 First Light’s First Post-Launch Gadget: Smart Glasses

007 First Light may already have revealed its first real post-launch gadget DLC — developed in partnership with an actual technology company.

And no, this is not another one of our April Fools’ jokes.

Not long ago, we jokingly imagined 007 First Light receiving an absurd episodic story “First Bite” DLC tied to a bakery brand partnership complete with QR-code pastries and a “technical toaster” gadget.

Now, IO Interactive has officially announced a real-world gadget collaboration with Even Realities, bringing the Even G2 Smart Glasses into 007 First Light as the game’s first confirmed post-launch gadget.

Developed by Even Realities, a young smart-glasses company with operations in Shenzhen and Berlin, the Even G2 is designed to resemble ordinary eyewear far more than futuristic headsets.

Unlike larger mixed-reality devices such as Apple Vision Pro or earlier generations of bulky smart glasses, the focus here is on a lightweight and discreet form factor. Instead of placing an obvious digital interface between the user and the real world, the glasses integrate information more subtly into everyday situations.

That understated philosophy may also explain why the technology feels surprisingly compatible with Bond.

The Even G2 can display the time, incoming notifications, messages, reminders and navigation prompts directly inside the wearer’s field of view. The platform also supports features such as live translation, teleprompter-style text assistance and AI-supported conversational tools that can help users follow discussions more naturally or provide contextual prompts during interactions.

Rather than functioning like a flashy science-fiction gadget, the glasses are built around the idea of quietly assisting the user without drawing attention to themselves. And in many ways, that still feels very Bond-like — ordinary-looking eyewear hiding capabilities nobody else around him immediately notices.

The First Official Details About Their Role in 007 First Light

Exactly how IO Interactive plans to translate that concept into gameplay remains unclear for now.

The clearest official description currently available was shared by Jamie Saunter, BD & Partnerships Director at Brand Culture, in a recent LinkedIn post. Brand Culture is the agency helping IO Interactive coordinate several of 007 First Light’s real-world partnerships.

According to Saunter:

“The Even G2 Smart Glasses will become the first modern wearable integrated into a Bond game. Built around tech that doesn’t shout for attention but quietly amplifies human potential, the glasses reward intelligence gathering and tactical awareness – their invisible power working alongside Bond’s instincts to uncover secrets and reveal new opportunities.”

Since the gadget is planned as post-launch content, the Even G2 will likely be connected more closely to TACSIM and other long-term systems than to the core campaign itself.

There may even already have been a tiny early tease hidden in the marketing. In one extremely brief moment from the Rules of Spycraft trailer, Bond can be seen wearing glasses while taking cover behind a table during combat. Interestingly, the sequence itself appears to come from a TACSIM challenge in which Bond fights powerful enemies while collecting data discs.

That could also explain why the gadget has not yet been properly showcased in gameplay. Based on everything revealed so far, much of TACSIM seems designed as long-term endgame content that becomes far more relevant after players complete the main campaign.

Right now, IO Interactive is clearly prioritizing the cinematic story experience and Bond’s origin narrative in its marketing. Systems tied more closely to TACSIM and post-launch progression are therefore still being kept largely in the background.

It is also possible that the partnership itself came together relatively late in development, meaning the deeper gameplay integration of the Even G2 could still actively be evolving behind the scenes.

But There Is One Major Problem

Bond may already have a gadget that covers much of this functionality.

Bond’s OMEGA Seamaster already appears to handle a surprisingly large amount of tactical analysis through its Q Lens system. The watch allows Bond to scan environments, identify enemy weaknesses and resistances, track targets partially through walls and even manipulate parts of his surroundings.

That creates a genuine design challenge for IO Interactive. If the watch already handles environmental scanning and hacking mechanics, the Even G2 cannot simply repeat the same functions without feeling redundant.

The glasses may therefore need to operate on a different layer of gameplay altogether — perhaps focusing less on interacting with the environment itself and more on reading behavior, predicting danger or enhancing Bond’s situational awareness.

Bond and Smart Glasses Go Way Back

Interestingly, this would not even be the franchise’s first experiment with technologically enhanced eyewear.

For longtime Bond fans, the concept immediately recalls one of the series’ most infamous gadget moments: Bond using X-ray glasses inside the Blades Club in London during Die Another Day while scanning guests for concealed dangers beneath their clothing.

The sequence turned the glasses into an almost absurd intelligence tool, revealing hidden holsters, concealed firearms and eventually even the guests’ underwear — a perfect reflection of the flashy gadget style and more openly sexist Bond humor of the late Brosnan era.

The Even G2 appears to reinterpret that same fantasy in a much more grounded way, focusing less on exaggerated X-ray vision and more on subtle information gathering and situational awareness. Still, the core idea remains surprisingly similar: Bond quietly seeing more than everybody else in the room.

What Could the Glasses Actually Do?

Rather than simply repeating the OMEGA watch’s environmental scanning systems, the Even G2 could instead focus on enemy behavior, tactical prediction and intelligent combat planning inside TACSIM.

Possible gameplay functions could include:

  • analyzing opponents over time to activate temporary bonuses or penalties during encounters, such as increased damage against specific enemies, slower reaction times or reduced enemy accuracy
  • visualizing parts of the enemy AI behavior, including where opponents are about to move or reposition
  • warning the player when enemies are attempting to flank or surround Bond
  • identifying enemies that are low on ammunition, reloading or temporarily vulnerable
  • highlighting ideal takedown orders or synchronized attack opportunities during larger encounters
  • rewarding especially efficient tactical combos or coordinated combat chains with additional Instinct resources

That kind of predictive espionage gameplay would feel distinctly different from the OMEGA watch’s more direct hacking and environmental scanning mechanics — and perhaps much closer to the fantasy of Bond reading a room faster than everybody else around him.

For now, though, IO Interactive is keeping most of the details carefully hidden. And that uncertainty may be exactly what makes the Even G2 Smart Glasses one of the more intriguing post-launch additions currently connected to 007 First Light.

What gameplay features would you actually want to see from Bond’s new smart glasses?
