IO Interactive has revealed new technical details about the Nintendo Switch 2 version of 007 First Light, including the studio’s targets for resolution and performance.
The details were discussed during the gamescom dev talk “Glacier – Platform Adaptability and Performance Lessons from ‘007 First Light’,” presented by Executive Producer Cris Vega and Principal Core Programmer Kristoffer Hammarsköld from IO Interactive.
1080p in Handheld and Docked Mode
For the release version of 007 First Light on Nintendo Switch 2, IO Interactive is currently targeting a 1080p output in both handheld and docked mode, alongside a locked 30 frames per second.
IO Interactive also discussed the use of FSR and DLSS as part of its approach to the Switch 2 version, with the goal of utilizing the hardware to its “maximum potential.”
While 30 FPS puts the Switch 2 version below the performance modes available on more powerful hardware, maintaining the same 1080p target in both handheld and docked play should make for an interesting portable version of Bond’s latest adventure.
Switch 2 Version Enters the Final Stretch
The Switch 2 version already appears to be in good shape. According to IO Interactive, 007 First Light is currently running very well on the platform, with the team now focusing on bug fixing and improving stability.
During today’s gamescom dev session, we also got to see a short pre-recorded gameplay clip of the Nintendo Switch 2version in action. Tomorrow, we will have the opportunity to go hands-on with the game ourselves and take a closer look at how 007 First Light performs on Nintendo’s new hardware.
Whether the current state of development lines up with the rumored September 16 release date remains to be seen. IO Interactive has yet to officially announce a date, but we may not have to wait much longer to find out.
