007 First Light Year One Roadmap Reveals First Story DLC, Photo Mode and New Game+

“I thought Christmas only comes once a year.”

For 007 First Light players, it may feel as if it has arrived a little early.

In a week marked by Summer Game Fest and IO Interactive’s own IOI Access event in Los Angeles, the studio has unveiled its first major Year One roadmap—and it is packed with surprises. The upcoming content was presented in a newly released roadmap trailer narrated by Audio and Missions Director Dominic Vega, who offered players a first glimpse at what lies ahead.

From Bawma’s unexpected return in the game’s first story-driven DLC to a long-awaited Photo Mode, new Tactical Simulations and even the possibility of a New Game+ campaign, IO Interactive has outlined an ambitious vision for Bond’s future.

And if even half of these ideas make it into the game, Year One is shaping up to be a very busy one for MI6’s newest 00 agent.

Bawma Will Return

Perhaps the biggest surprise on the Year One roadmap is the confirmation that Bawma will return.

While the Aleph crime boss quickly became one of the game’s most memorable characters, his overall presence in the campaign turned out to be shorter than some players may have expected. The roadmap therefore offers welcome news for fans hoping to spend more time with the charismatic underworld figure.

The trailer accompanying the announcement reveals that Bawma has specifically requested James Bond for what is described as a personal matter. While IO Interactive has not disclosed further details, one possible lead may involve Bawma’s missing sister, Harmony. During the campaign, it was established that MI6 possesses information regarding her whereabouts. The new mission could therefore see Bond assisting Bawma in uncovering what happened to her.

The trailer for Bawma’s return also teases a nighttime arrival in Aleph by helicopter. If the brief footage is any indication, Bond’s return to Mauritania may offer a very different perspective on the region than the one seen during the main campaign.

The announcement is particularly noteworthy because it appears to represent the very first story-driven DLC planned for 007 First Light. Until now, IO Interactive’s post-launch plans have focused primarily on Tactical Simulations, challenges and gameplay expansions. A dedicated narrative mission would mark a significant step beyond that approach.

What remains unclear is how the studio intends to handle story content going forward. Will Bawma’s return serve as the beginning of a broader episodic post-launch structure connected by an overarching narrative? Or will IO Interactive opt for larger, self-contained adventures released at wider, non-cyclical intervals?

The roadmap itself offers no definitive answers. However, the placement of the Bawma storyline on the far right side of the roadmap may provide a clue. Although the graphic contains no timeline and explicitly notes that content may change or be delayed, it would not be surprising if this story expansion arrives toward the latter part of Year One. Compared to new gadgets, challenge missions or Tactical Simulations, a narrative-driven DLC would likely require substantially more development resources and production time.

For now, IO Interactive is keeping its cards close to the chest. Yet the combination of Bawma’s return, the reference to a personal request and the possibility of revisiting Aleph suggests that this may become one of the most ambitious pieces of post-launch content announced so far.

New Vehicle Missions Put Bond Back Behind the Wheel

Vehicle gameplay appears set to receive significant attention throughout Year One.

Players will once again take the wheel of the Aston Martin Valhalla as they race across Slovakia’s mountain slopes in a new Tactical Simulation mission. Interestingly, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak revealed during IGN Live 2026 that the sequence is embedded within its own story, suggesting that the mission may offer more than a straightforward driving challenge.

The Year One trailer also briefly shows the Valhalla’s weapons systems being activated. Some traffic violations, it seems, may be dealt with more directly than the local police would normally recommend.

Bond will also return to Aleph’s sprawling black market in Mauritania, where a new Tactical Simulation will focus on off-road driving encounters. While details remain scarce, the desert setting could potentially put Bond behind the wheel of a Defender or Land Rover as he ventures across rough terrain and rocky desert tracks. Fans of the campaign may simply be hoping that a certain Land Rover Lightweight 88 fares a little better this time around.

Returning to Webb Industries and The Pearl

Not all upcoming Tactical Simulations are centred around vehicles.

Players will also return to The Workshop, the underground laboratory complex hidden beneath the Webb Industriesbuilding in Kensington. Comprised of multiple laboratories and research areas, the facility was one of the campaign’s most distinctive locations. If our first visit is anything to go by, Bond may once again find that more things end up exploding there than being stirred or shaken.

Another mission will take Bond back to The Pearl, the luxury resort in Vietnam. According to IO Interactive, a new enemy has taken control of the facility, forcing Bond to return and deal with the threat.

Who Is the New Ruler of The Pearl?

IO Interactive has chosen not to reveal who has taken control of The Pearl. That alone suggests Bond may be dealing with a familiar face from the main campaign rather than an entirely new antagonist.

The secrecy also raises a broader question: could Tactical Simulations eventually become a way for IO Interactive to introduce characters from the wider Bond universe? A younger Scaramanga, closer to Bond’s own age, would certainly make for an intriguing rival.

Whether a villain of that stature would be introduced through a Tactical Simulation, however, is another matter entirely. Such a character may be better suited to a major story expansion—or perhaps even a future sequel.

Photo Mode Finally Confirmed

Another long-requested feature is finally on the way: an official Photo Mode.

Few additions have been requested more frequently since launch. While PC players have already relied on third-party camera tools to capture the game’s cinematic moments, console players have largely been limited to standard screenshots. An official Photo Mode should finally allow everyone to showcase Bond’s adventures exactly as they see fit.

IO Interactive also deserves credit for responding quickly to community feedback. During a developer Q&A shortly before launch, the studio explained that a Photo Mode would not be available at release and would only be considered at a later stage. Its appearance on the Year One roadmap suggests that the feature moved up the priority list sooner than many players expected.

Players may need a little patience, however. IO Interactive has yet to announce a release window, and the roadmap itself notes that planned content remains subject to change.

New Game+ Campaign Appears to Be Back on the Table

One of the roadmap’s most surprising additions may be the appearance of a New Game+ Campaign.

While the concept is familiar from many action games, implementing it in 007 First Light may be more challenging than it first appears. Bond’s gadgets are closely tied to story progression, tutorials and mission design, raising interesting questions about how a second playthrough might work.

If IO Interactive decides to connect Tactical Simulation progression with the main campaign, gadgets, upgrades and equipment unlocked throughout Year One could potentially carry over into a second playthrough. Tactical Simulations already experiment with this concept by placing late-game gadgets into earlier scenarios. Bringing that approach into the campaign itself, however, would be a much bigger undertaking and could fundamentally change how players approach many story missions.

That complexity may also explain why the feature had not previously been part of the conversation. During a developer Q&A shortly before launch, IO Interactive stated that there were currently no plans for New Game+. Even now, the accompanying press release only notes that the feature is being explored, suggesting that development may still be in its early stages.

A higher difficulty setting could also be a natural fit. More aggressive enemies, stricter resource management and tougher stealth encounters would provide experienced players with fresh challenges while encouraging creative use of their expanded toolkit.

New Gadgets, Weapons and Enemies

Beyond individual missions, the roadmap confirms a steady stream of additional Tactical Simulation content.

Players can expect gadget upgrades, new weapons, challenge missions, leaderboard events, cosmetics, additional intel and entirely new enemy types throughout Year One.

One particularly interesting addition are the newly revealed Even Realities G2 GlassesIO Interactive has not yet fully explained their functionality, but the studio has confirmed that the glasses will provide additional information to help players achieve their mission objectives. The gadget’s prominent appearance on the roadmap suggests it could become an important new tool in Bond’s growing arsenal.

Additional Rewards Planned

The roadmap also teases several community-focused rewards that have yet to be fully revealed.

A fifth Wishlist Milestone reward is currently listed without details, while a separate James Bond Day Reward is also planned for later in the year. Fans may already want to mark October 5 in their calendars. Celebrated annually as James Bond Day, the date commemorates the world premiere of Dr. No in 1962 and has become an annual celebration of the franchise. Last year, IO Interactive used the occasion to release the Omega watch reveal trailer for 007 First Light, which also featured the very first lines spoken by Alistair Mackenzie as Q.

Given that previous milestone rewards have largely focused on cosmetic content, players may already be wondering what surprises IO Interactive has planned next.

Path Tracing and Nintendo Switch 2

Beyond gameplay additions, the roadmap also mentions a future Path Tracing update for PC and reiterates that 007 First Light remains on track for its previously announced Late Summer 2026 release on Nintendo Switch 2.

Neither announcement comes as a major surprise, but both serve as a reminder that IO Interactive continues to support the game across all platforms.
