007 First Light – More on Campaign Length, Difficulty and New Game+

New previews and developer interviews are revealing more and more about the overall structure of 007 First Light. Recent hands-on impressions now point toward a surprisingly lengthy campaign, a fairly demanding standard difficulty, and a different approach to replayability than some players may have expected.

Together, these details offer one of the clearest looks yet at the overall shape of IO Interactive’s upcoming James Bond adventure.

Around 20 Hours and Roughly 15 Missions

According to several recent hands-on previews — including coverage by JorRaptor on YouTube007 First Light appears to offer a story campaign lasting roughly 20 hours for the average player before the credits roll.

That estimate aligns with comments from other preview participants, some of whom also mentioned the game featuring around 15 individual missions. While the exact structure of the campaign is still unknown, the reported scope already sounds larger than many players may associate with IO Interactive’s earlier story-driven games.

For comparison, Hitman: AbsolutionIO Interactive’s last major linear story-driven action title — was commonly estimated at around 10–15 hours for a first playthrough depending on playstyle and replayability.

Older IO Interactive titles were generally shorter experiences. Kane & Lynch: Dead Men was usually described as roughly an 8–10 hour campaign, while Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days became particularly known for its very short runtime of around 4–6 hours.

Even compared to cinematic action-adventure games that 007 First Light is frequently compared to, the reported scope sounds fairly substantial. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is commonly estimated at around 15–17 hours for an average playthrough, while Batman: Arkham Knight often lands closer to 16–20 hours for the main story alone.

The numbers also stand out compared to older James Bond games. The original GoldenEye 007 on the Nintendo 64 was commonly completed in roughly 8–12 hours on a first playthrough, although higher difficulties, bonus objectives, cheat unlocks, and multiplayer significantly extended its long-term replayability.

Importantly, the reported 20-hour estimate for 007 First Light appears to focus only on the core story campaign. It does not include TACSIM, the game’s tactical simulation framework that introduces additional challenges, modifiers, mission variations, and leaderboard competition intended to support long-term replayability.

Three Difficulty Modes Confirmed

Preview coverage from outlets including PC Games has also confirmed that 007 First Light currently includes three separate difficulty settings.

The easiest mode appears primarily intended for players who want to enjoy the story in a more relaxed and cinematic way, without constantly struggling against combat pressure or limited resources.

However, impressions surrounding the middle difficulty setting have been especially interesting. Several previewers described even the default difficulty as already fairly challenging, suggesting that IO Interactive is not necessarily aiming for an extremely forgiving baseline experience.

Additional details came from IO Interactive’s Laurine Dechamps in an interview with InvenGlobal, where she explained that difficulty settings modify Bond’s health and stamina, enemy health, and available resources. As a result, higher difficulties appear designed to create broader tactical pressure rather than simply turning enemies into bullet sponges.

What About New Game+?

One feature many players immediately asked about was New Game+.

In many modern single-player games, New Game+ allows players to restart the story after finishing it once while keeping previously unlocked upgrades, equipment, skills, or progression. It is often used as an additional replayability feature for players who want to experience the campaign again with expanded abilities or a more powerful character build.

However, 007 First Light is currently not expected to include the feature at launch. The absence of New Game+ was mentioned both in recent preview coverage and directly during IO Interactive’s developer livestream on May 6, 2026. According to the available information, players will begin each new campaign playthrough from scratch.

That may disappoint some players, especially in a game that appears heavily focused on experimentation and replayability. At the same time, IO Interactive seems to be positioning TACSIM as the primary long-term gameplay framework instead. However, based on everything shown so far, TACSIM also appears largely detached from the main story itself, instead using the campaign’s locations and gameplay systems as the foundation for separate tactical scenarios, modifiers, and repeatable challenges.

In that sense, IO Interactive appears to be focusing more on long-term challenge-based replayability than on replaying the campaign itself. Whether TACSIM can fully replace a more traditional New Game+ experience will likely only become clear once players can spend more time with the mode after launch.
