007 First Light Original Soundtrack Released Digitally, Running for WSA Game Music Award

A Soundtrack Worth the Wait

After more than two months of waiting, fans can finally experience 007 First Light‘s acclaimed soundtrack outside the game. The official 007 First Light Original Soundtrack has been released today across major digital streaming platforms, including Apple MusicSpotifyYouTube Music and other popular streaming services.

Composed by The Flight, the digital release features 38 tracks with a total runtime of one hour and 50 minutes, bringing together many of the score’s defining musical moment. Recorded at Abbey Road Studios and Angel Recording Studios and performed by the Chamber Orchestra of London, the soundtrack showcases the cinematic scope that has earned widespread praise from both players and critics alike.

Having previously composed acclaimed scores for games such as Alien: IsolationAssassin’s Creed OdysseyHorizon Forbidden West and most recently Assassin’s Creed ShadowsThe Flight once again demonstrates why the duo is regarded among the industry’s leading video game composers. Rather than simply imitating the familiar Bond sound, they crafted a musical identity that pays tribute to more than six decades of James Bond while confidently establishing a voice of its own.

From Bond’s first mission to the emotional finale, rich orchestral themes, tense action cues and intimate character moments combine to create what is, in our view, one of the finest video game soundtracks in recent years. Being able to revisit that music independently from the game is therefore a milestone in its own right.

Not Quite the Complete Musical Journey

While the digital album offers an outstanding collection of music from 007 First Light, longtime players will quickly notice that it doesn’t represent the complete musical journey heard throughout the campaign. Several memorable score cues are absent, including the new arrangement of the James Bond Theme during Bond’s jump over Slovakia, the music accompanying his arrival at the Webb Gala and the beautiful harp-driven piece heard inside Webb Industries in Antarctica.

The same applies to the game’s licensed music. Songs by artists including The Cromagnon BandChase & StatusTinariwenGrace “Gigi” Ogun and Sonic Union are likewise absent from the album. While this is fairly common for soundtrack releases due to music licensing, it means that some of the game’s most memorable licensed tracks are not represented as part of the official 007 First Light soundtrack.

Now that Milan Records has officially released the soundtrack digitally, fans are naturally wondering whether more could still be on the way. A 007 First Light soundtrack briefly appeared on the label’s website back in early June before disappearing again, fuelling speculation about a wider release. While nothing beyond today’s digital edition has been announced, collectors will undoubtedly be hoping that a physical release eventually follows.

A Contender for the WSA Game Music Award

The soundtrack’s quality has already earned recognition beyond the Bond community. The Flight‘s work on 007 First Light is currently in the running for this year’s WSA Game Music Award, presented as part of the annual World Soundtrack Awards during Film Fest Gent in Belgium. Established in 2001, the awards celebrate excellence in screen music across film, television and video games and are widely regarded among the industry’s most prestigious honours. Since 2023, interactive scores have also been recognised through a dedicated Game Music Award, highlighting the growing artistic importance of video game music.

Public voting remains open until 15 August, with the finalists to be announced ahead of the awards ceremony on 10 October. If 007 First Light‘s unforgettable score impressed you as much as it did us, consider casting your vote for The Flight and help bring one of this year’s finest game soundtracks the recognition it deserves.
