IO Interactive has released the fifth episode of its Beyond the Light developer diary series, titled “Art & Authenticity.” The video features 007 First Light Franchise Art Director Rasmus Poulsen, Senior Licensing Producer Theuns Smit, and Andy Hunt-Cooke, Global Head of Communications for the Defender brand at Land Rover.
One thing immediately stands out: at just 3 minutes and 55 seconds, this is by far the shortest Beyond the Light episode released so far. In fact, it feels less like a traditional developer diary and more like a short promotional featurette. That may indicate that future episodes could take a slightly different approach.
For readers of ExpectingMrBond, much of the first half of the video will sound familiar. Poulsen revisits several topics that he also discussed during our interview with him at Gamescomn 2025, including the idea of timelessness as a key pillar of the game’s artistic direction. Locations such as the Grand Carpathian evoke the atmosphere of classic Bond adventures, while Aleph serves as a more modern counterpoint. The video also reiterates the importance of credibility, with 007 First Light aiming to balance a believable world with the action and spectacle expected from a James Bond story.
The second half of the episode focuses almost entirely on Defender and its role as one of the game’s official brand partners. The video highlights the vehicle’s suitability for some of 007 First Light‘s more remote locations, including the deserts of Mauritania, and explores why the brand was considered a natural fit for the game’s globe-trotting adventure.
The emphasis on Defender is especially interesting given that a future Beyond the Light episode might focus on Orlebar Brown. If that installment follows a similar structure, it may suggest that upcoming entries in the series will devote more attention to individual brand partners and their connection to the world of 007 First Light.
