This is no cover story: IO Interactive is inviting fresh talent to join its ranks and help build the world of James Bond. No tuxedo required – but a sharp artistic eye and a solid portfolio are a must.
The developer is offering a rare opportunity: an internship that lets you step behind the curtain and contribute directly to the making of 007: First Light. While you won’t be dodging lasers or infiltrating volcano lairs, you will help design the very environments and props that Bond himself will later inhabit.
What the Internship Is About
IO Interactive is currently recruiting Environment/Prop Art Interns for its studios in Malmö (Sweden) and Copenhagen (Denmark). The position runs for four to six months, full-time, and is meant for students or motivated newcomers eager to earn their license to work in the games industry.
The internship is unpaid, which may sound unusual to readers outside Scandinavia. In Denmark and Sweden, however, such placements are a standard part of education: students often receive financial support from their universities or the state, making a salary unnecessary. IOI makes clear that this opportunity is designed for exactly those candidates — or for applicants who can participate under the same conditions.
Your Mission as an Intern
Interns will:
- Support the Environment and Prop Art teams in creating AAA-quality assets.
- Collaborate across disciplines to bring Bond’s world to life.
- Learn studio pipelines, workflows, and best practices.
So what does that mean on the ground?
Environment Artists are the architects of Bond’s playgrounds: mountaintop hideouts, luxury casinos, secret bunkers.
Prop Artists create the details that make those places believable: champagne bottles, telephones, hidden gadgets – even the villain’s ornamental desk lamp.
Together, they ensure 007: First Light feels like Bond from the broad strokes down to the tiniest cufflink.
The Skills IOI Is Looking For
- A portfolio with 3–5 strong pieces, including at least one game-ready asset with textures and wireframes.
- Familiarity with Maya, Blender, Substance Painter, Unreal Engine, and similar tools.
- A strong artistic eye, curiosity, and a willingness to learn.
And here’s a tip straight from IOI HQ: if you want to stand out, create a worn metal briefcase – game-ready, under 5k tris, with a 2k texture set. Bond might just stash classified documents inside.
Your Rewards for Joining the Mission
While the internship doesn’t come with a paycheck, it does come with perks worthy of MI6:
- The chance to contribute to a world-class IP alongside seasoned professionals.
- Hands-on mentorship from IO’s Environment and Prop Art teams.
- An international, welcoming studio culture.
- A résumé entry that can open doors across the games industry.
How to Apply for the IOI Internship
Applications without a portfolio won’t be considered. Make sure your work reflects the tone and style of 007: First Light. A sleek gadget render or an environment that feels straight out of a Bond mission could be the perfect showcase.
In short: if you’ve got the eye, the tools, and the ambition, this could be your license to break into the world of AAA game development.
