IO Interactive has revealed that world-famous DJ Dimitri Vegas will appear in 007 First Light as an on-stage NPC performing inside one of the game’s nightclub scenes.
The Belgian DJ and producer — whose real name is Dimitri Thivaios — is best known as one half of the electronic music duo Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. The pair have topped the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs ranking and are among the most recognizable acts of the global festival scene, regularly headlining Tomorrowland with hits such as “Mammoth,” “Tremor,” and “The Hum.”
Vegas is also no stranger to video games. He previously collaborated with IO Interactive in Hitman World of Assassination, where he portrayed the criminal DJ Alexios Laskaridis, also known as “The Drop.” In that Elusive Target mission, Vegas appears performing inside Berlin’s underground club Hölle, while Agent 47 attempts to eliminate him during the event.
Dimitri Vegas has been confirmed to appear on stage in Aleph, seemingly playing himself within the world of 007 First Light. It would be hard to imagine a DJ appearance without the music to match. Given that Aleph is a thriving hub of black-market activity within the game, that setting also raises the intriguing possibility that his digital alter ego may have more on his agenda than simply entertaining the crowd.
The announcement may also solve one of the last remaining location mysteries from the earlier trailers. Until now, it was unclear where the game’s nightclub scenes actually take place. With Dimitri Vegas now confirmed to perform there, and the purple lighting of the announcement key art closely matching those earlier club shots, it now strongly points to Aleph as the setting.
At the same time, the reveal once again reinforces the impression that Aleph will be a surprisingly expansive level — suggesting that Bond’s time in the city will involve far more than dealing with Bawma and his crocodile pit.
