007 First Light Is Going Episodic — “First Bite” DLC Announced

Since the reveal of 007 First Light, many players — particularly those familiar with IO Interactive’s long-term content support for the Hitman series — have begun asking what kind of post-launch strategy the studio might have in mind for the new Bond title.

IO Interactive has now offered a first answer, officially unveiling a new direction for the game with its first episodic story expansion: 007 First Bite. The expansion is designed to continue the world of 007 First Light beyond its standalone campaign through a structured, multi-part narrative.

The project is being developed in collaboration with the Danish bakery brand Snydepakke. Founded in 1872, the company has since grown into a globally operating food brand — a scale that now also plays a role in the expansion’s narrative setup.

Eat the Fine Print — Unlocking the First Bite DLC

As part of the collaboration, access to First Bite will be tied to a distinctive distribution model, with players able to redeem episodes of the story expansion through QR codes printed directly onto sliced toast produced by Snydepakke.

Each family-size pack of the “First Bite” line contains one slice featuring a unique code. According to the information shown in the trailer, players will soon simply need to scan the code and link it to their own IOI account in order to unlock the DLC episodes for the main game 007 First Light.

The World Is Toast. Only One Can Save It.

The story of First Bite introduces a new adversarial faction known as S.C.O.R.C.H., a mysterious organization that has developed a method to convert baked goods into explosive materials.

Breakfast is no longer safe. From a morning slice of toast to a café scone or a takeaway bagel, the most ordinary routines have been turned into potential weapons — hidden in plain sight, distributed across the globe, and capable of being activated at any moment. In theory, any of them could be the last.

With global supply chains unknowingly compromised, Bond is drawn into a rapidly escalating crisis that spans multiple international locations connected to real Snydepakke’s global operations, including:

  • Copenhagen, Denmark — home to Snydepakke’s headquarters
  • Kansas, USA — a key production hub
  • Honululu, USA — a distribution and luxury front
  • The Amazon Delta — a concealed production site deep within the jungle

Early concept art and storyboards shown alongside the reveal highlight several of the locations and encounters planned for the expansion. One piece of artwork shows Bond on a nighttime mission near Frederik’s Church in Copenhagen, while another concept image places him on the beach of Waikiki.

One particularly unusual storyboard depicts Bond fighting a man on a tractor. The opponent is labeled “Mr. Tool” in the storyboard and appears to have a pitchfork and a shovel in place of hands.

Saving the World, One Slice at a Time

The trailer also unveiled the official key art for the First Bite expansion. The poster prominently features the unmistakable silhouette of Patrick Gibson’s James Bond, standing in the classic Bond pose with pistol in hand. He appears framed by a glowing slice of toast rising from a toaster, turning the appliance into a surprisingly cinematic stage.

Inside the toast, the faint outline of a world map is visible, while the background suggests devastated landscapes and distant city silhouettes. The overall composition carries a slight Quantum of Solace vibe in its stark, dramatic styling, yet it rewards closer inspection with playful details: tiny explosions, scattered baked goods, and even small skull motifs hidden throughout the patterned background.

Together, these elements perfectly capture the tongue-in-cheek tone of the DLC’s concept while still presenting it with unmistakable Bond flair.

Nobody Does It Batter — Meet Bond’s New Ally

Joining Bond in this expansion is Cherry Batter, a Scottish food scientist specializing in molecular gastronomy and high-energy compounds.

Her expertise plays a central role in analyzing the altered materials used by S.C.O.R.C.H., while her presence in the field introduces a dynamic contrast to Bond’s instinct-driven approach.

Some of her past work, however, appears uncomfortably close to the methods now associated with S.C.O.R.C.H..

Crunch Time — Before the Mission

First Bite places a stronger emphasis on Bond’s more modern, self-aware lifestyle.

Before heading into the field, Bond starts his day right — with a slice of Snydepakke toast.

Building on this idea, players engage in a short interactive toast sequence at the beginning of select missions, requiring fast controller inputs as Bond rushes through his morning toast before heading into the field.

Performance in this sequence provides gameplay benefits such as:

  • Mission modifiers
  • Unlockable artwork
  • Behind-the-scenes content

However, the footage shown appears to be early alpha gameplay, seemingly with noticeable input lag and visuals that are still far from their final presentation.

Toast also becomes part of the core gameplay itself. During missions, players can discover slices of Snydepakke toast in the environment, restoring Bond’s health.

Positioned as a more grounded alternative to abstract mechanics — like picking up potions — the system reframes recovery in a way that feels more natural within the world of Bond, at least according to IO Interactive’s own description,

Q Branch Reinvents Defense — The Tactical Toaster

The expansion also adds a new gadget to Bond’s arsenal: the Tactical Toaster.

Developed by Q Branch, the device appears deceptively simple at first glance — until it is activated. Incoming projectiles are pulled off course and drawn into the toaster’s reinforced chamber, where they are contained in a controlled field.

With a single command, Bond can release the stored energy in a powerful burst, turning defense into immediate offense.

In addition, the device features integrated infrared tracking, allowing Bond to detect heat signatures through walls and relay the data directly to his Q Watch — offering a tactical edge in even the most confined environments.

A Five-Part Expansion Rolling Out After Launch

007 First Bite will be released as a five-episode story arc, continuing the narrative of 007 First Light beyond its standalone campaign.

The first episode is scheduled for the Holiday Season 2026, with additional episodes expected to follow thereafter across multiple global locations tied to Snydepakke’s operations.

The expansion will be available on  PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.

The price of the special Snydepakke First Bite toast featured in the campaign — which grants access to the episodic content — has not yet been announced.
